LANDSCAPE
The approach to landscape often starts with the close-up textures and tangle of the Australian bush. However, the paintings on this page explore the other end of the scale.
‘My broad landscapes deal with that part of Australia familiar to me since childhood - hills and rivers that I explored when fishing with my father’.
Many of these paintings, the aerial series, were the result of numerous flights that Lupp took in the 1980s following the entire length of local rivers such as the Macquarie, the Turon, the gentle Belubula and the fast flowing Abercrombie.
These subjects are interpreted by evoking the distinctive quality of light, usually of winter afternoons, and the richly textured patterns unique to Australia.
