BIOGRAPHY

The human figure does not appear regularly in Lupp’s work. When it is used, the figure has a broader application and is usually supplementary to an overall context - statuary as related to architecture or figures in a setting where symbolism and mood are important. In some cases Lupp chooses to imply the presence of the figure. For example, with architectural features such as doors and windows and other elements suggesting the human scale.

The figure appears more in Lupp’s student work of the 1970s in the hyper-realist style typical of the time. Elements of this style are still strongly evident in his work.

Traditional portraits are usually of friends and family with an occasional commissioned work. Artists of influence are Hans Holbein the Younger, Rembrandt and Degas.
